Mallory Park race report 2I replicated his piece of not so clever driving to avoid running into the back of the other car only to find, unsurprisingly the rear of my car step out of line quicker than I could shout the appropriate explicative! I managed to regain control of the car only for the outside rear wheel to catch the grass (sodden from the previous day’s deluge) and from that point on I was a passenger. The car smote the barriers side on, which thankfully limited the damage that could have occurred had the impact been square on. Nonetheless I was to take no further part in the qualifying session and could only stand, watch and engage in small talk with the ever helpful band of marshals, who incidentally awarded me top marks for style!Once the car was back in the paddock and I had been given the once over by the medics it was time to asses the damage. Thankfully as I have already alluded too, hitting the tyre wall side on dissipated a lot of the energy generated by the impact and therefore limiting the mechanical damage to purely a strut top mount although the bodywork did look very sorry for itself to say the least! With less than an hour to repair the car prior to the first race of the day for the VAG Trophy it was all hands to the pumps! The Saxon Motorsport crew worked wonders as ever to get the car repaired and the bodywork looking somewhere near how it left the factory. Unfortunately I was forced to start the race it was from the pitlane as we were still having the car checked over by the officials as the rest of the cars were lining up on the grid!
