Snetterton race report page 2As if I needed reminding of the dangers of motor racing, I got some at the very first corner of the first race no less! I made a reasonable start and found myself in around about 5th position heading into the first corner “Richies”. It was at this point where the unfortunate Jamie Packham lost control of his pole sitting and beautifully prepared Golf right at the front of the pack! Seeing Jamie come flying across the track in front of me was certainly eye opening to say the least but after a bit of high speed grass cutting I managed to avoid any contact. Unfortunately my new, young team mate Matt Weller (in his first Golf GTi race) was less fortunate and, unsighted could not avoid an impact which left two very damaged cars in the middle of the circuit. The inevitable red flags flew and a re-start was then in order.At the re-start (minus Jamie and Matt) I made a bit of a howler and was swallowed up by the front of the field, completing the first lap down in seventh position. From that point on I decided that discretion was the better part of valour and drove at a pace with which I was comfortable to ensure a good solid finish and one of those all important signatures.
